Louisiana income tax, explained
Louisiana replaced its graduated brackets with a flat 3% income tax starting in 2025, continuing for 2026. The reform also raised the standard deduction sharply — $12,500 for single filers and $25,000 for married couples filing jointly.
That large standard deduction means a good portion of a typical paycheck is shielded before the 3% rate applies, making Louisiana's effective state tax fairly low for many workers.
