Mississippi income tax, explained
Mississippi taxes income at a flat 4% for 2026, but with a twist: the first $10,000 of taxable income is taxed at 0%. On top of that, Mississippi gives both a standard deduction and a personal exemption, so a sizable amount of income is shielded before any tax applies.
This calculator combines the $10,000 zero bracket, the standard deduction, and the personal exemption into one deduction, which reproduces Mississippi's 0%-then-4% result for wage earners. Mississippi's rate is scheduled to keep falling in later years.
