Utah income tax, explained

Utah has a flat income tax that was cut to 4.45% for 2026 (down from 4.50%) under Senate Bill 60. Utah computes tax on your federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction is built in before the flat rate applies.

Rather than a standard deduction, Utah offers a taxpayer tax credit that lowers tax for people with lower incomes and phases out as income rises. That credit is not modeled here, so the estimate may slightly overstate tax for lower earners.

Frequently asked questions

What is Utah's income tax rate for 2026?
Utah has a flat 4.45% income tax for 2026, reduced from 4.50% by Senate Bill 60.
Why do some sources still say 4.5%?
4.5% was the 2025 rate. The 2026 cut to 4.45% was enacted in early 2026, and some pages had not yet updated at the time of writing.
Does Utah have a standard deduction?
Not directly. Utah uses your federal taxable income and then applies a taxpayer tax credit that phases out with income.
